An early setback for champions Juve, but they will happily take a point given the way this game was going early in the second half. The Bianconeri were 2-1 down at the break to two Veretout goals - one a penalty - either side of Ronaldo's own spot-kick. Rabiot was then sent off after the interval, while Dzeko passed up two big chances to extend Roma's lead, but Ronaldo's header rescued a precious point.

Juve are now two points behind early leaders Napoli heading into next week's Turin clash. Roma are at Udinese.

That is all from this gripping draw. Thanks for joining us and, until next time, goodbye!

  1. 90'+4'

    FULL-TIME Roma 2-2 Juventus22:42

  2. 90'+3'

Cuadrado makes a mess of the set-piece and Chiellini attempts an extremely optimistic overhead-kick. It drops well wide.22:42

  3. 90'+3'

Ronaldo is working so hard for his team. He holds the ball up and then drives at the Roma defence, winning a foul 30 yards from goal.22:41

  4. 90'+1'

Costa delivers the left-wing corner won by Frabotta, but Dzeko nods clear. A second delivery swings out of play before reaching Chiellini at the far post. Disappointing.22:40

  5. 90'+1'

There will be a minimum of three minutes of added time.22:39

  6. 90'

With Roma pushing back the other way, Frabotta carries the ball all the way up the pitch to the corner flag. Great work.22:39

  7. 89'

A near-post corner is flicked on by Danilo but lands behind Bonucci. Roma clear.22:37

  8. 88'

Ronaldo is still pushing for a hat-trick! He drives down the right, squares up Kumbulla, and wins a corner.22:36

  9. 86'

That is quite the impact. Frabotta, just off the bench, is very late to challenge Bruno Peres and goes into the book.22:34

  10. 85'

Frabotta, who impressed last week, is on for Kulusevski for the closing stages.22:33

  11. 84'

Dzeko gets to the byline on the left, but nobody takes up his usual role in the centre and he can only send a low ball straight into Szczesny's clutches.22:32

  12. 83'

There are appeals for handball from Roma players, but the ball strikes Dzeko, not Danilo, and the game continues.22:32

  13. 82'

Bruno Peres crosses deep to Dzeko, who nods the ball down for Pedro on the edge of the area. He thunders in a shot, but the ball is deflected over the crossbar.22:31

  14. 82'

Roma are dominating the possession but struggling to pick a hole in a resolute Juve defence.22:31

  15. 81'

Juve escape again as the delivery from the corner is poor and then Mancini fouls his men in the centre following a second cross.22:29

  16. 80'

Great defending! Pedro is down the left and has time to look up and seek out a man, but Chiellini gets to his cross in front of Mkhitaryan and nods over his own crossbar from point-blank range.22:29

  17. 78'

Frustration is growing for Roma! With every loose pass and each needless foul, they get more nervy.22:26

  18. 76'

Great ball from Spinazzola! After patient play on the edge of the Juve box, he lifts in a cross that neither Pedro nor Bruno Peres can quite reach at the back post.22:24

  19. 73'

Juve are in control heading into the closing stages, even with 10 men.22:22

  20. 72'

Diawara is on for his second attempt at a Roma debut, having seen a clerical error last week prompt a 3-0 forfeit. He is on for Pellegrini.22:21

  21. 70'

Now the pressure is back on Roma to get a third goal and win this match, having led and wasted a couple of big chances against 10 men.22:20

  22. 69'

Danilo deserves great credit for the assist, reaching the byline and putting a cross into an area where Ronaldo will always back himself.22:19

  23. 69'

GOOAAALLLL!!! RONALDO! OF COURSE! The Juve man gets his second and it is 2-2. He might be the only Bianconeri shirt to aim for in the centre, but Ronaldo is up higher than three Roma defenders - including the freshly introduced Bruno Peres - to tower a close-range header past Mirante.

  24. 68'

Juve made a change, too, as Bentancur replaces Ramsey.22:17

  25. 68'

Roma freshen things up with Bruno Peres on for Santon on the right.22:17

  26. 67'

Arthur threads a pass through to Ronaldo in the area, but playing up front alone now, he is outnumbered and has nowhere to go, turning back and prompting a passage that ultimately sees the ball back at the feet of Szczesny.22:16

  27. 65'

Poor from Ramsey! Costa cuts a cross back and Arthur controls for Ramsey to shoot from 20 yards. He scuffs it, though, and the ball bounces off Ronaldo and spins through to Mirante.22:14

  28. 64'

SAVE! Dzeko has another chance to seal the points! Mkhitaryan keeps the ball in play on the left and centres to Dzeko, who moves play on to Santon. The wing-back feeds a pass back to Dzeko, but his first-time shot is well held by Szczesny.22:13

  29. 63'

Having just replaced McKennie, Juve look a little lightweight in midfield. It is a 4-4-1 formation, with Ramsey and Arthur in the centre.22:12

  30. 62'

RED!! Second yellow for Rabiot! The midfielder has been walking a tightrope since the Roma penalty and this is a simple decision. He turns in the centre of the pitch and does not spot Mkhitaryan behind him, diving after the ball and kicking the back of his opponent's leg.22:11

  31. 61'

A roar of approval goes up as Dzeko finally get a foul given his way! The small crowd at Stadio Olimpico have made themselves heard.22:10

  32. 60'

There are players down on both sides - Veretout for Roma, Kulusevski for Juve - but no foul is given either way. They will both be able to continue.22:09

  33. 58'

There is a change in midfield, too, and another debut. Arthur replaces McKennie after a tough outing.22:07

  34. 58'

Morata's second Juve debut comes to a conclusion as Costa is introduced.22:07

  35. 57'

Now Chiellini goes down in a challenge with Dzeko. Those experienced centre-backs are trying to get under the Roma striker's skin.22:06

  36. 57'

CHANCE! Now Ronaldo has a chance he might do better with! Morata races in behind and, in rather peculiar fashion, lobs the ball up for his strike partner when he could shoot himself. Ronaldo steadies himself and catches the ball on the volley but shoots straight at Mirante.22:06

  37. 56'

POST! Remarkable miss! Dzeko should put the game beyond Juve! Spinazzola gets down the left, cuts inside and plays the ball back. Dzeko muscles a defender out of the way to control, dummies past another and then, with the goal at his mercy, hits the outside of the post. Incredible.22:05

  38. 55'

Dzeko is enjoying his battle against this Juve defence. There are jeers as Bonucci goes down in a tussle with the big striker.22:04

  39. 54'

Pellegrini gets a booking for a heavy challenge on Ramsey. The midfielder, who was not booked for conceding the penalty, wins the ball but lunges in two-footed.22:03

  40. 52'

Vital tackle from Danilo! Rabiot loses a header in the middle of the pitch and Roma almost break again. They have so many options when they come forward against an ageing Juve defence.22:02

  41. 51'

The hosts deliver their next corner into the box, but Dzeko's looping header clears the crossbar.22:00

  42. 51'

SAVE! Good stop from Szczesny! It is a speculative effort from Pedro following the short corner, swinging in an effort from the left flank, but Szczesny has to get up and make the save, tipping the ball over the top.21:59

  43. 50'

Roma are not looking to sit on their lead. Spinazzola and Mkhitaryan combine again, as they did so often in the first half, and win a corner on the left.21:59

  44. 48'

Roma look to counter and Dzeko brings Mkhitaryan into play with a lovely touch, but Juve defenders get back to recover. This is a really open start to the second half.21:58

  45. 47'

Ramsey so nearly brings Danilo's cross under control with a smart turn but is quickly closed out in the box.21:57

  46. 46'

McKennie was poor in the first half and gives the ball away within seconds of the restart. Juve need to get a grasp of this game.21:55

  47. 46'

KICK-OFF: Juve get us back under way!21:53

  48. Since the start of last season, no team have faced more penalties than Juventus in Serie A (13).21:46

  49. We have a cracker on our hands in Serie A! It took 31 minutes for the opener to arrive, but Veretout's penalty crept past Szczesny to kickstart a manic end to the half. Ronaldo equalised with a penalty of his own, before Veretout scored again against the run of play in stoppage time.21:40

  50. 45'+2'

    HALF-TIME: Roma 2-1 Juventus21:37

  51. 45'+1'

Mkhitaryan gets the assist after a superb run down the left. Cuadrado attempts to come across to cover, but the playmaker times his pass to perfection.21:36

  52. 45'+1'

GOOAAALLLL!!! VERETOUT AGAIN! Roma are straight back in front! 2-1! It is a stunning counter. A Juve free-kick is cleared and the hosts are in the clear three on one. Mkhitaryan squares, Veretout controls and then squeezes a finish past Szczesny.

    See Jordan Veretout's player card21:36

    Jordan Veretout
  53. 45'+1'

There will be a minimum of one minute of added time.21:35

  54. 45'

Ronaldo has scored in each of his first two games of the season in one of Europe's 'top five' leagues for the fourth time in his career. He did so three times with Madrid - in 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2014-15.21:34

  55. 44'

GOOAAALLLL!!! RONALDO! No mistake! Ronaldo sends Mirante the wrong way. Having earned the penalty, he brings Juve level at 1-1.

    See Cristiano Ronaldo's player card21:33

    Cristiano Ronaldo
  56. 43'

PENALTY! Another handball, another penalty! This time for Juve! Ronaldo drives into the area from the left and, after a heavy touch, just beats Pellegrini to the ball, prodding it against his opponent's dangling arm.21:32

  57. 42'

Roma give the ball straight to Ramsey, who turns and plays in Kulusevski down the right. But on his wrong foot, the cross is poor and Kumbulla clears.21:31

  58. 40'

Veretout returns to the field after a quick drink and instruction from his coach.21:29

  59. 38'

There is a brief stoppage as Veretout lifts himself having taken the ball flush in the face following a Danilo tackle. He will require treatment.21:29

  60. 38'

Roma are effectively frustrating Juve. Pedro picks up the ball deep inside his own half but rides the first challenge from Ramsey and earns a foul from Cuadrado.21:28

  61. 36'

Kumbulla dives in on Kulusevski and goes into the book.21:25

  62. 33'

WIDE! A stunning Ronaldo cross almost prompts an instant response! The right-wing centre reaches Ramsey, who directs the ball goalwards from close range, only for a defender to deflect it wide. The referee gives a goal-kick, however.21:23

  63. 32'

It is a goal Roma just about deserve. Juve have lacked fluency in attack, while Spinazzola and Mkhitaryan have caused problems going the other way.21:25

  64. 32'

Roma last failed to score in their first two Serie A matches in a season in 1992. Despite drawing a blank at Verona last week, that will remain the case thanks to Veretout's penalty.21:24

  65. 31'

GOOAAALLLL!!! VERETOUT! JUST! Roma lead 1-0! Veretout tucks the penalty to his left, but Szczesny gets across and maybe should save it, instead pushing the ball against the post and in.

    See Jordan Veretout's player card21:21

    Jordan Veretout
  66. 30'

Rabiot goes into the book as the referee sticks with his initial decision and awards the spot-kick.21:20

  67. 30'

PENALTY! Now Roma have a decision in their favour! Veretout shoots goalwards from the edge of the box and Rabiot clearly handles.21:20

  68. 29'

WOW! This is contentious! Dzeko goes to ground ahead of Chiellini just as he looks to be clean through on goal. The small crowd at Stadio Olimpico implore the official to send Chiellini off. But the referee instead spots Dzeko's initial tug on the defender's shirt and gives the foul the other way. It looks a good decision, but Dzeko is not happy.21:21

  69. 28'

A superb Chiellini challenge gives Morata the chance to run at the Roma back line with Ronaldo to one side and Ramsey to the other. But Morata looks for Ronaldo and gets the pass all wrong. Roma escape.21:17

  70. 27'

Spinazzola is looking to get forward every time he gets the ball and clearly has the beating of Danilo. A dance inside past both the full-back and Rabiot prompts cheers.21:16

  71. 24'

Spinazzola gets a round of applause as he leaves Danilo in his wake with a smart stepover, but the ball runs out of play.21:14

  72. 23'

Danilo is offside! Mirante is not to know and saves well from an eight-yard header after Chiellini loops Kulusevski's corner back across goal.21:12

  73. 23'

Roma are conceding corner after corner, the latest as Ibanez steps in ahead of Ronaldo from McKenni's pass.21:12

  74. 22'

Kulusevski and Ramsey combine impressively down the right and a cross forces a hurried clearance.21:11

  75. 22'

Dzeko might have been looking to direct a Juve corner goalwards had the transfer market played out differently. Instead, he thunders a header away.21:11

  76. 21'

Juve go short with the corner, but Kulusevski's centre is blocked behind for another.21:10

  77. 21'

Good defending! Ibanez stoops to head Danilo's dangerous cross from deep behind for a corner.21:10

  78. 20'

Juve's midfielders have been a little careless so far. Morata gets down the channel onto Chiellini's pass, lays the ball back to Cuadrado, who in turn looks for Rabiot, but the Frenchman passes straight out of play. McKennie has been guilty of similar.21:09

  79. 17'

Spinazzola gets forward down the Roma left but has five Juve bodies blocking his path to goal as he cuts inside to shoot. He goes for goal regardless and unsurprisingly sees his effort blocked.21:06

  80. 17'

Morata wins a free-kick 30 yards from goal and then gets on the end of Kulusevski's delivery, but he is a long way out and his header loops over.21:06

  81. 15'

Juve have control but are struggling to breach the final third. Roma, by contrast, look more than happy to play on the counter.21:05

  82. 12'

SAVE! Szczesny denies Mkhitaryan a stunning individual goal! McKennie and Kulusevski combine smartly in the Roma half, but a poor touch from the former is pounced upon. Mkhitaryan runs at the Juve goal from close to halfway and dummies past Bonucci's challenge before shooting hard and low but straight at the advancing goalkeeper.21:05

  83. 10'

McKennie swipes at a Pedro cross, but Szczesny is up first to claim the loose ball.20:59

  84. 10'

Juve are not happy as Danilo goes down under pressure from Spinazzola and knocks the ball behind, conceding a corner as no foul is given.20:59

  85. 8'

McKennie's dallying in midfield almost lets Mkhitaryan in, but Chiellini lunges into a tackle. Ronaldo can lead an attack at the other end yet sees a speculative left-wing shot blocked.21:00

  86. 7'

Now Morata is offside. He and Ronaldo know each other well from their Real Madrid days. The two are staying central early on.20:56

  87. 6'

Ramsey gets forward down the left and shoots straight at the goalkeeper from a tight angle, but the flag is up for offside following Morata's pass.20:55

  88. 4'

Juve enjoy a spell of possession for the first time and seemingly shift to a back three, allowing Cuadrado to push on. It will be interesting to see how these shifting tactics fare as the game wears on.20:53

  89. 2'

Roma immediately look to get at Cuadrado, with Pedro crossing, but the ball is nodded clear in front of Dzeko in the centre.20:51

  90. 1'

It appears as though Juve are indeed lining up in a 4-4-2. Last week's 3-4-1-2 had been predicted in some quarters, but Cuadrado is at left-back with Ramsey ahead of him.20:51

  91. 1'

KICK-OFF: Roma get us up and running!20:49

  92. Roma won 3-1 at Juve on the final day of last season and so are now bidding to win back-to-back Serie A games against the Bianconeri for the first time since 1995.20:40

  93. New boy Morata is straight into the Juve team in their only change. The shape of the team remains to be seen as Frabotta makes way. Meanwhile, Dybala is back among the substitutes. Kumbulla makes his debut for Roma, who restore Bianconeri-linked Dzeko to the line-up.21:08

  94. Subs: Carlo Pinsoglio, Gianluigi Buffon, Mattia De Sciglio, Arthur, Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa, Daniele Rugani, Merih Demiral, Rodrigo Bentancur, Gianluca Frabotta, Manolo Portanova, Giacomo Vrioni.20:29

  95. Juventus (4-4-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Danilo, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Juan Cuadrado; Dejan Kulusevski, Adrien Rabiot, Weston McKennie, Aaron Ramsey; Alvaro Morata, Cristiano Ronaldo.20:28

  96. Subs: Pau Lopez, Pietro Boer, Bryan Cristante, Gonzalo Villar, Carles Perez, Bruno Peres, Amadou Diawara, Mirko Antonucci, Riccardo Calafiori, Justin Kluivert.20:28

  97. Roma (3-4-2-1): Antonio Mirante; Gianluca Mancini, Ibanez, Marash Kumbulla; Davide Santon, Jordan Veretout, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Leonardo Spinazzola; Pedro, Henrikh Mkhitaryan; Edin Dzeko.20:28

  98. Let's get the team news from Stadio Olimpico...20:28

  99. Napoli - 6-0 victors against Genoa today - are up next for Juve, so it is vital they lay a marker down in the early stages of another title race under new coach Andrea Pirlo.20:16

  100. The champions made a winning start to the new campaign against Sampdoria last week but now face what should be a far tougher test at Roma. The Giallorossi were 3-0 losers by default at Verona last week after a registration error and will be keen to put things right at home to Juve.22:22
