That's that, and Milan secure a second victory of the season in front of a lively home crowd! The Rossoneri's dominance continued throughout the second half, with Giroud's superb volley sealing the victory following more skilful play from Leao. Bologna showed glimpses of quality, but nothing compared to that of the champions, who showed that they'll be just as tough to beat to the top of Serie A this season.

Although Leao, with a goal and assist, was undoubtedly the star of the show, Charles De Ketelaere showed signs that he will certainly prove to be a shrewd acquisition for the Rossoneri. He set up the opener, and created four other chances. He also whipped in three crosses, completed three dribbles, and had four touches in the Bologna box. Talent.

That well deserved victory sends Milan to the top of the Serie A table, albeit having played just three games of course. Bologna, meanwhile, will have to wait another week for their first victory, but did show some signs that those three points aren't too far away; they were just beaten by a champion side in this game.

  1. That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until the next one, goodbye!22:50

  2. 90'+3'

    FULL-TIME: MILAN 2-0 BOLOGNA.22:37

  3. 90'+1'

BLOCKED!! Milan look for a third as Saelemaekers cuts inside. He finds Leao racing across the box, who backheels for Calabria, but his first-time effort is blocked by Soumaoro!!22:36

  4. 90'

We'll play three minutes of added time to close out this game.22:34

  5. 88'

Bologna break and work the ball forward well. Arnautovic floats the ball to Ferguson arriving at the back post, but a clash of heads between Ferguson and Pobega sees play brought to a sudden halt.22:32

  6. 86'

Aebischer looks to release Ferguson in midfield, but he's pulled back by Adli, who is booked for the needless foul.22:29

  7. 85'

CHANCE!! A good underlapping run from Ballo-Toure allows him to cross from the byline. It's met by Adli at the back post, but his downward header is parried away by the foot of Skorupski.22:28

  8. 84'

The booked Schouten is also withdrawn, and so Lewis Ferguson will come on for his Bologna debut.22:27

  9. 83'

Tomori comes off in Milan's last change, and the England defender is replaced by Matteo Gabbia for Stefano Pioli's side.22:26

  10. 82'

A mix-up between Lucumi and Soumaoro almost gives Saelemaekers a shooting chance, but their Bologna teammates recover possession before the Milan substitute can shoot.22:26

  11. 80'

Milan have kept a clean sheet in their last two Serie A matches at San Siro against Bologna, and are on course to keep a clean sheet for three home games in a row against them for the first time since 1999 .22:27

  12. 78'

Leao glides past Bonifazi and cuts the ball back to the edge of the box, but Pobega can't get there in time and it's cleared by Bologna.22:21

  13. 77'

Arnautovic looks to bring Bonifazi into play by chesting down a loose ball, but he loses out to Tomori and Milan re-gain possession.22:54

  14. 75'

Hernandez comes off in Milan's latest change, and he's replaced at left-back by Fode Ballo-Toure.22:18

  15. 74'

There looked to be a potential penalty shout for Bologna, as Tomori caught Sansone very late, but the referee doesn't want a second look at the challenge and play continues.22:18

  16. 74'

Medel comes off next for the visitors, with Kevin Bonifazi entering the fray.22:17

  17. 73'

CHANCE!!! Good inter-play from Bologna sees Soriano play it through to Sansone, but a deflection off Tonali forces a save from Maignan!22:16

  18. 72'

Cambiaso comes down the left and looks to find several options in the box, but the ball takes a nick off Calabria and goes behind for another corner.22:15

  19. 70'

SAVED!!!! Saelemaekers is released into space, and has a go from the edge of the box. It's a good effort that is curling away from Skorupski, but he gets down low to tip it around the post!22:14

  20. 69'

Calabria picks up the ball in space on the edge of the box and tries his luck, but can only drag his well-struck effort wide of the right post!22:13

  21. 68'

WIDE!!!! It's a short free-kick, as Sansone opens up space and smashes a shot from the edge of the box, that flies goalward and catches the outside of the post on its way behind!22:11

  22. 67'

Sansone stands over the free-kick, but there's some push and shove going on in the box, sparked by Hernandez and Soumaoro!22:12

  23. 66'

Sansone surges down the left for Bologna, before cutting inside Calabria and being chopped down from behind. The Rossoneri were really exposed at the back there, so Calabria won't mind taking a booking for that tactical foul.22:54

  24. 64'

Cambiaso cuts inside Calabria and pulls off a clever backheel to release Soriano, but the Milan captain recovers to dispossess the substitute before he can whip in a cross.22:08

  25. 62'

Dominguez is the third man withdrawn by Sinisa Mihajlovic, with Michel Aebischer coming on in the middle.22:07

  26. 62'

Vignato is the next Bologna forward to come off, and Roberto Soriano replaces him.22:06

  27. 62'

Bologna also make several changes, the first of which sees Barrow come off for Nicola Sansone.22:05

  28. 62'

Messias is also withdrawn for Milan, replaced on the right wing by Alexis Saelemaekers.22:05

  29. 62'

De Ketelaere, making his first start for the club, has been unplayable at times, but comes off now as Milan bring on Tommaso Pobega.22:05

  30. 61'

Bennacer comes off in Milan's first chance, with Yacine Adli coming on to make his Rossoneri debut.22:04

  31. 60'

Both goals have come from Bologna being dispossessed whilst leaving themselves open at the back. The first goal came via a good tackle from De Ketelaere, but that ball across the backline was always a risky one from Cambiaso!22:03

  32. 58'

Fantastic awareness from Leao to bring that high ball down and immediately set up Giroud, and he gets an assist to add to his tally in this game.22:03

  33. 58'

GOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! It's two!!!! Cambiaso's switch ball across his backline is cut out by Leao, who dinks it over the top for Giroud to send goalwards with an elegant over-the-shoulder volley!!! 2-0 to Milan, and it's a moment of brilliance from the Frenchman that scores it!

    See Olivier Giroud's player card22:02

    Olivier Giroud
  34. 56'

De Ketelaere turns Schouten deep in his own half and powers over halfway, but he's pulled back by the Bologna midfielder, who is penalised and booked by the referee.22:00

  35. 55'

CHANCE!!! Dominguez frees up Cambiaso down the left, and the wing-back crosses into the area. Arnautovic chases the ball, but can't latch onto the cross and the chance goes begging!21:59

  36. 53'

Dominguez turns and shoots from 25 yards out, but can only send his shot a fair distance over Maignan's crossbar.21:56

  37. 51'

Kalulu is caught late and high by Dominguez in midfield, but it's more of a coming together than a deliberate foul so no cards are brandished.21:55

  38. 50'

Tomori skilfully turns Barrow and races out of defence with feeling, but his ball for Hernandez is woeful and dribbles over the sideline.21:53

  39. 48'

Bologna counter as Arnautovic looks to find Barrow, but a deflection off Tonali allows the Rossoneri to re-gain possession.22:55

  40. 46'

Arnautovic gets us back underway, as Bologna kick off the second half!21:48

  41. The teams are back out for the second half, and can Milan make their dominance count with more goals?21:47

  42. Leao scored the opener, and has been everywhere for Milan so far. He's had five shots, two of which were on target, as well as completing a key pass. He's also maintained a pass accuracy of 92.9 per cent, the most of any Milan player, and has engaged in a game-high 10 duels, nine with the ball at his feet. Lively.21:40

  43. The first half ends with Milan in the driving seat, thanks to that well-taken goal by Leao. The hosts have had the vast majority of the chances, forcing several saves from Skorupski, but 1-0 is never a safe scoreline, and the Rossoneri will be aiming to put this very capable Bologna side to the sword in the next 45 minutes.21:37

  44. 45'+2'

    HALF-TIME: MILAN 1-0 BOLOGNA.21:33

  45. 45'+1'

SAVED!!!! Leao races onto a loose pass from Kasius and races down the left. He dribbles into the box and shoots, but it's parried by Skorupski! De Ketelaere follows in, but he can only smash a volley over the bar!21:33

  46. 45'

We'll play an additional minute of added time, as half-time approaches in this game.21:32

  47. 44'

WIDE!!! Tonali breaks through Bologna's midfield before teeing up Giroud. He's forced onto his right foot, but shoots nonetheless, and drags his effort just wide of the far post!21:32

  48. 42'

A good ball through the lines from Hernandez has Tonali racing onto it, and he attempts to cross before a Soumaoro block forces a corner for Milan.21:28

  49. 40'

Two of the six red cards in Serie A this season have been for Bologna’s players (Adama Soumaoro vs Lazio and Riccardo Orsolini vs Verona): no team has received a red card in each of the first three games matches in a single Serie A season since 1995.21:26

  50. 38'

WIDE!!! Good work from Bologna as Arnautovic and Barrow play a clever one-two, before the latter hits a shot from the edge of the box that bounces just wide of Maignan's left post!21:25

  51. 36'

Tonali is down in back play and requires treatment, but is soon back on his feet so play can continue.21:23

  52. 34'

Leao looks to create something on the edge of the box, but is crowded out by three white shirts and the visitors recover possession.21:20

  53. 32'

Giroud catches Medel with a stray elbow, and the Bologna centre-back hits the deck. He's fine to carry on before long though, and the two veterans get going again.21:19

  54. 30'

Messias looks to put Calabria in behind the visitors' defence, but overhits the attempted throughball and it goes behind before the Rossoneri captain can latch onto the ball.21:16

  55. 28'

SAVED!!! After a positive Bologna attack comes to nothing, Leao races up the other end and tees up Messias. He shoots on the angle from the right, but it's parried by Skorupski and Leao blazes over the rebound!21:14

  56. 26'

SAVED!!!! Kalulu surges clear on the counter before finding De Ketelaere. He chips over the defence for Leao to get his second, but Skorupski races out and is able to hold the eventual shot from close range!21:13

  57. 25'

Leao was Milan's joint-top scorer last season, level with Giroud, and the execution of that opener suggests he'll definitely be up there in terms of goalscoring in 2022-23.21:12

  58. 23'

Messias is released down the right by De Ketelaere, but in slides Lucumi to beat him to the ball, but he concedes a corner in the process.21:11

  59. 21'

What a piece of play for De Ketelaere, who won the ball superbly in midfield and carried it forward with purpose! The final pass was a peach too, and the Belgian marks just his third Milan game with an assist!21:08

  60. 21'

GOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!! The Rossoneri hit the front!!!! De Ketelaere picks Schouten's pocket in midfield and drives forward with the ball. He finds Leao to his left, who fires a low finish into the near corner, wrongfooting Skorupski, and making it 1-0 to the home side!

  61. 19'

Schouten taps a loose ball past Tonali and is then clipped late by the Milan midfielder, and Tonali is penalised by the referee.21:05

  62. 17'

Hernandez comes forward again before linking up with De Ketelaere. He tees up Messias to cross, but the Brazilian shoots low, but it's a tame effort that Skorupski can easily hold. 21:04

  63. 15'

Dominguez races onto a ball over the top, but Tomori has it covered for Milan and ushers the ball over the goal-line.21:01

  64. 14'

Milan's streak of 18 consecutive unbeaten league games is the longest unbeaten run currently ongoing in the top five European Leagues.21:00

  65. 12'

Kasius looks to find Arnautovic to spark a break from deep in their own half, but the Bologna striker is caught offside and play is brought back.22:55

  66. 10'

Hernandez strides forward and looks to find Giroud in the box, but Lucumi cuts it out. Hernandez tries to volley the rebound towards goal, but skews it away for a Bologna throw!20:57

  67. 8'

Bologna are unbeaten in three Serie A matches against Juventus, Inter and Milan. The last team to have recorded a longer unbeaten streak against these opponents was Roma between 2020 and 2021, while the last time the Rossoblu did better was in 2012, with Stefano Pioli in charge.20:54

  68. 6'

De Ketelaere escapes Lucumi and beats Medel on the inside before crossing from the byline, but it's too close to Skorupski, who gathers.20:52

  69. 5'

Tonali looks to find Messias at the back post with a high, hanging cross, but overhits it and it sails behind for a goal kick.20:51

  70. 4'

Milan have lost only one of their last 25 Serie A meetings against Bologna, back in January 2016, when the visitors’ current coach Sinisa Mihajlovic was in the dugout for the Rossoneri.20:50

  71. 2'

Vignato gets away from Tonali and tees up Barrow to shoot, and his effort flies wide of the post!20:48

  72. 1'

A poor backpass from Lucumi has Skorupski in all sorts of trouble, and the Bologna keeper has to race out and whack the ball clear before Giroud can pounce!20:47

  73. 1'

Giroud kicks off for Milan, and we are underway in this game!20:46

  74. The teams are out on the pitch, and we're ready for kick-off here at San Siro!20:43

  75. Against Verona, Marko Arnautovic became the first player to score in both of Bologna's first two games in a Serie A season since Roberto Baggio, who did so in 1997/98. The Austrian could become the first Bologna player since 1980 to score in the first three games of the season if he adds to his goal tally at the San Siro.20:42

  76. Milan needed a 68th minute equaliser from Ismael Bennacer to come away from Atalanta with a point, and the Algerian starts in midfield alongside Sandro Tonali. Brahim Diaz and Ante Rebic, who scored three of the Rossoneri’s four goals against Udinese on the opening day, are on the bench.22:53

  77. BOLOGNA SUBS: Nicola Sansone, Kevin Bonifazi, Antonio Raimondo, Lewis Ferguson, Michel Aebischer, Roberto Soriano, Charalampos Lykogiannis, Lorenzo Di Silvestri, Wisdom Amey, Kacper Urbanski, Ibrahima Mbaye.20:35

  78. BOLOGNA (3-4-2-1): Lukasz Skorupski; Adama Soumaoro, Gary Medel, Jhon Lucumi; Denso Kasius, Jerdy Schouten, Nicolas Dominguez, Andrea Cambiaso; Emanuel Vignato, Musa Barrow; Marko Arnautovic.20:35

  79. MILAN SUBS: Fode Ballo-Toure, Yacine Adli, Brahim Diaz, Ante Rebic, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Simon Kjaer, Alessandro Florenzi, Divock Origi, Tommaso Pobega, Matteo Gabbia, Alexis Saelemaekers.20:35

  80. MILAN (4-2-3-1): Mike Maignan; Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Sandro Tonali, Ismael Bennacer; Junior Messias, Charles De Ketelaere, Rafael Leao; Olivier Giroud.20:35

  81. I Rossoblu haven’t had the start they’d have wanted to the season, losing to Lazio before drawing with Verona. They’ve had a player sent off in both their games too, although forward Marko Arnautovic has netted in each.20:21

  82. Defending champions Milan lie sixth in the league, having won and drawn their opening two games. They’ve scored five goals in these games, which should bode well against a Bologna side with just a point from their opening two.20:16
