Salernitana earn a point from Milan for the first time since a win in 1948 with a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Stadio Arechi. Messias’ fifth-minute goal was cancelled out in superb style by Bonazzoli before a diving Djuric header gave the Granata a lead in the 72nd minute. Despite fantastic defensive work from Dragusin and Fazio, Milan were able to equalise 13 minutes from time thanks to Rebic’s accurate strike from distance. A disappointing night for the Rossoneri sees them go only two points clear of Inter at the top, having played two matches more. The tie keeps Nicola's side at the bottom, seven points from safety.

Salernitana will look to make it four matches undefeated on the bounce when they host Bologna next Saturday. Milan are hoping to get back to winning ways on Friday against Udinese.

That concludes our commentary of the Serie A fixture between Salernitana and Milan! We hope you’ve enjoyed it!

  20. 69'

  21. 69'

Perotti is on for Ribery, who was unable to shake off the knock.22:15

  22. 67'

Play is stopped for Ribery, who looks to have signalled that he’s pulled something. The former France international attempted to get up and carry on but he was unable to get to his feet as a substitution looks imminent.22:14

  23. 65'

Maignan almost concedes again in sloppy fashion, coming out of his penalty area in possession only to be caught by Bonazzoli. The striker turns and looks to fire into the open goal for the second time tonight but this time Romagnoli is able to make a crucial block.22:13

  24. 63'

Ribery scored his last Serie A goal against AC Milan in March 2021: since then, he has played 22 games and failed to score.23:25

  25. 61'

Rebic is on for Diaz just after the hour as Milan search for a way to break the deadlock.22:07

  26. 60'

A frustrated lunging tackle from Giroud on Fazio earns the France international a yellow card.22:07

  27. 59'

Kessie keeps the ball well, shielding it from both Kastanos and Mazzocchi before winning a free-kick on the edge of his own penalty area. 22:07

  28. 57'

Mazzocchi is again cool under pressure, heading Messias’ far-post cross away from danger with Leao on his back waiting to exploit a mistake.22:03

  29. 55'

Kessie’s cross from the right is met by the head of Romagnoli, who manages to prod it across the penalty area for Giroud. Under pressure from Fazio, the former Arsenal forward manages to get his head on the pass but can only send it wide.23:23

  30. 53'

Kastanos catches Leao during the winger’s slaloming run towards the penalty area - giving Milan a free-kick on the left wing.21:59

  31. 52'

Ederson is shown a yellow card for catching Calabria across the shins in midfield during the right-back's attempt to turn with the ball.21:58

  32. 50'

Leao’s touch back to Romagnoli in midfield gives the defender time and space to spray a pass forward to one of Milan’s three forward players, but his misplaced effort in search of Diaz allows Sepe to claim the ball easily.23:23

  33. 48'

LEAO MISSES WITH THE OVERHEAD KICK! Sepe comes off his line unconvincingly to prod the ball away from Diaz - who manages to get there first and pass it back to Tonali. The midfielder sends a cross to the far post with the goalkeeper still out of position which is met by a spectacularly acrobatic effort that narrowly misses the goal!21:54

  34. 47'

A ball forward from Calabria looks to split the defence for Leao but again Dragusin manages to cover his area effectively and clear the danger.21:54

  35. 46'

Milan get the match restarted from the kick-off!21:51

  36. 46'

A change at the interval sees the booked Bennacer replaced in midfield by Kessie.21:49

  37. Milan will need to make changes in the second half if they wish to freshen things up and pose different threats to Salernitana. The recently fit Rebic will no doubt be keen to come on and improve his side’s fortunes, though Saelemaekers could add a bit more pace to the attack. Nicola’s early enforced change leaves him somewhat hampered, though he has a number of seasoned options to call upon in order to hold the result, with Jaroszynski and Gagliolo likely entrants.21:35

  38. An entertaining first half at the Stadio Arechi comes to its conclusion with Salernitana and Milan locked together. The visitors were the first to strike after Hernandez’s leading pass was finished with aplomb by Messias after just five minutes. The Granata were not to be denied in their first match under Nicola’s direction however and equalised less than a half-hour later through Bonazzoli’s sublime overhead kick. The Rossoneri had a number of half-chances to retake the lead but Bennacer and Leao in succession were unable to turn their chance past a busy Sepe.23:22

  39. 45'+3'

    HALF-TIME: SALERNITANA 1-1 MILAN.21:35

  40. 45'+2'

Play is stopped for Mazzocchi, who went down heavily after a strong but fair challenge from Hernandez. The Salernitana right-back has been impressive in the first half and his coach will be hoping he'll be able to continue.21:33

  41. 45'

The fourth official indicates three minutes will be added to the end of the half for stoppages.21:31

  42. 43'

A golden opportunity goes to waste as Leao is unable to get a shot off inside the penalty area after taking Diaz’s pass down with his chest. Tonali looks to get on the end of the loose ball but Dragusin is able to clear it away at the last second.21:29

  43. 41'

CLOSE! Hernandez’s chip gets Leao free inside the penalty area headed towards the byline. The Portugal international manages to cut it back for Messias, who manages to get a slight touch to the ball but not enough to divert it away from the arms of Sepe.21:27

  44. 39'

With just over five minutes left in the half, Salernitana will be looking to do all they can in order to hold the score as it is. They’ve worked exceptionally hard in the first half and are deserving of the draw as it stands, but Milan’s quality on the pitch can change a game quickly.23:33

  45. 37'

Maignan looks to deploy the same tactic which earned Milan their only goal against Sampdoria, with the goalkeeper hitting the ball long over the top for Leao. The forward nearly gets possession inside Salernitana's box but an alert Sepe rushes off his line to claim it.23:32

  46. 35'

Tonali is dispossessed in midfield which leads to a potential counter-attack. Bennacer comes across and fouls Bonazzoli cynically - earning the Algeria international a yellow card.21:21

  47. 33'

Salernitana look full of confidence as they knock the ball around the Milan press. It’s been an impressive first 30 minutes under Nicola’s stewardship - with the counter-attack looking lively.21:20

  48. 31'

Bonazzoli’s finish is Salernitana’s first goal against Milan since 1999! The potential point isn’t enough to bring the Granata off the bottom of the table but it does put them a single point behind Genoa having played a match fewer.21:19

  49. 29'

AN OVERHEAD KICK LEVELS THE MATCH! 1-1! Mazzocchi charges up the pitch and puts a cross into Djuric, which tempts Maignan off his line. The goalkeeper scuffs his punch which allows Bonazzoli to dispatch an overhead kick into the empty net!

  50. 28'

After initially signalling to the bench that he’s in need of some assistance, Tonali has re-entered the match in order to try and run off the knock. Pioli certainly doesn’t have to risk the Italy international but he’s determined to see if he can continue.21:13

  51. 26'

Play is halted temporarily for Tonali, who seems to be struggling after stretching to win a loose ball before catching Coulibaly. The Milan midfielder has come off worse as Kessie warms up on the touchline as a precaution.21:11

  52. 24'

Hernandez puts a corner from the left into the penalty area in search of Leao but it’s won by Fazio at the near post.21:10

  53. 22'

Milan have scored at least two goals in each of their five matches against Salernitana in Serie A (12 goals scored, averaging 2.4 per match), the highest that the Rossoneri have recorded against a single opponent currently in the competition.21:08

  54. 20'

Tomori launches a pass over the top of Salernitana’s defence but both Mazzocchi and Dragusin converge to prod the ball away from Leao - who was tracking its flight keenly.21:07

  55. 18'

The ensuing corner taken by Hernandez falls to the foot of Giroud, who is unable to fashion a shot at goal as Fazio is able to clear it away.23:34

  56. 17'

Bennacer and Tonali stand over the free-kick but it’s the Algeria international who strikes it with his left foot - putting his effort on target and forcing Sepe to turn it behind with a diving save.21:03

  57. 16'

Mazzocchi crashes into Leao and brings him down to the turf just outside Salernitana’s penalty area - giving Milan a real chance to double their lead from a set-piece.21:02

  58. 15'

Nicola is forced into a change just 15 minutes into his first match as coach of Salernitana, with Ederson replacing the injured Radovanovic.21:00

  59. 13'

Messias’ left-footed corner to the far post for Leao draws Sepe off his line. The goalkeeper leaps forward and manages to punch the ball away with a single fist - preventing the Milan winger from continuing the attack.20:59

  60. 11'

Ribery takes a Salernitana corner from the left flag but it’s a disappointing effort that sails comfortably into the arms of Maignan.20:57

  61. 9'

A sloppy pass in midfield from Diaz is cut out by Ribery, who finds Bonazzoli on the left wing. Tomori comes across and fouls the winger in front of the technical area - giving Salernitana a free-kick but stopping the counter.20:55

  62. 7'

It’s just the start Pioli would have wanted, as his side looked second-best in the opening stages only to find the opener after just five minutes. The hosts have it all to do now and can throw caution to the wind in order to get an equaliser.20:54

  63. 5'

Hernandez is credited with the assist after playing Messias into space - creating the goal-scoring opportunity.20:52

  64. 5'

MILAN TAKE THE LEAD! 1-0! Hernandez returns from suspension and makes an immediate impact, charging through midfield and laying a pass through the heart of the defence for Messias. The winger latches onto it and finishes coolly into the far corner - leaving Sepe with no chance!

  65. 4'

Salernitana’s corner from the left is repelled at the near post by Bennacer before it’s whacked away to safety by Diaz. It’s been a positive start from the hosts, who are looking to catch their opponents cold.20:50

  66. 2'

Hernandez foils an early attack, dispossessing the charging Mazzocchi before winning a free-kick for his side just outside his own penalty area.20:47

  67. 1'

Salernitana get the match under way from the kick-off!20:58

  68. Milan make a single alteration to the side that beat Sampdoria 1-0 last Sunday, as Hernandez returns from suspension to reprise his role at left-back, with Florenzi making way.20:38

  69. Salernitana make two changes to the XI that earned a 1-1 draw with Genoa last time out, as Ederson and Simone Verdi are dropped for Kastanos and the ever-youthful Ribery.20:38

  70. MILAN SUBS: Pierre Kalulu, Matteo Gabbia, Alexis Saelemaekers, Fode Ballo-Toure, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Franck Kessie, Alessandro Florenzi, Rade Krunic, Samu Castillejo, Daniel Maldini, Ante Rebic, Ciprian Tatarusanu.20:37

  71. MILAN XI (4-2-3-1): Mike Maignan; Theo Hernandez, Alessio Romagnoli, Fikayo Tomori, Davide Calabria; Ismael Bennacer, Sandro Tonali; Rafael Leao, Brahim Diaz, Junior Messias; Olivier Giroud.20:37

  73. SALERNITANA XI (4-3-2-1): Luigi Sepe; Pasquale Mazzocchi, Radu Dragusin, Federico Fazio, Luca Ranieri; Ivan Radovanovic, Lassana Coulibaly; Grigoris Kastanos, Franck Ribery, Federico Bonazzoli; Milan Djuric. 20:32

  74. With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let’s take a look at how the two sides are lining up - starting with our hosts!20:30

  75. One point ahead of cross-town rivals Inter having played a match more, Milan will be looking to put some distance between themselves and the chasing pack. Stefano Pioli’s side have been in fine form since their last-gasp defeat to Spezia, with the Rossoneri drawing against Juventus before beating Inter, Lazio and Sampdoria - conceding a single goal in that time. With Theo Hernandez back from suspension and Rafael Leao in sensational form, three points are a must for Milan.20:56

  76. It’s first against last this evening as Salernitana welcome league-leading Milan to the Stadio Arechi. Without a win in their last four matches, the Granata will be hoping for better fortunes under recently appointed coach Davide Nicola - who replaced the outgoing Stefano Colantuono just four days ago. With just one victory at home this season and 43 points separating the two sides, the hosts will have a sizeable task on their hands if they wish to take points from Milan for the first time since 1948.21:08
