A far less chaotic second stanza in that game, but that's because Inter had very little to do - they'd worked hard for their 3-0 lead in the first half, and Roma offered very little in the way of a fightback in either period. That first half, which produced a freakish opener and two very well-worked goals to follow, was all Inter needed, against a Roma side who looked lost in the face of adversity; and should performances like that continue, Jose Mourinho could well be out of yet another managerial door.

He scored the first goal straight from a corner and set up the second with the deftest of passes, but that wasn't all Hakan Calhanoglu did to contribute to this game. Another shot and key pass, as well as winning the ball back six times and being fouled twice, showed that like Dzeko, the Turkey international is really settling in a Inter, a club which have shown in this game, that they are serious contenders for the Serie A title.

Inter are up to second in the table, just a point behind their bitter rivals AC Milan, albeit with a much better goal difference. Napoli have a game in had over both Milan clubs and will leapfrog both with a win in their next game, but it's clear that the Serie A title could well end up in Milan, one way or another. Roma stay fifth, but culd be overtaken by Fiorentina, Juventus and Bologna should they all win their games in hand, and judging on their performance in this game, it's hard to tell if the Giallorossi are really up for the fight.

  1. That's all from us, we'll see you for the next game. For now though, goodbye!20:03

  2. 90'+4'

    FULL-TIME: ROMA 0-3 INTER.19:51

  3. 90'+3'

Volpato looks to carve out a crossing opportunity down the right, but Dimarco and Brozovic aren't giving him an inch and the former eventually brings down the Roma substitute for a free-kick.19:50

  4. 90'+1'

Veretout comes off for Roma, as Jose Mourinho brings on Cristian Volpato.19:49

  5. 90'+1'

Inter break forward through Alexis who feeds Vidal on the overlap. It's not the best cross, and Perisic has to really stretch to get to the ball, but it's in vain as his header flies into the air and goes behind for a goal kick.19:49

  6. 90'

We'll play an additional three minutes of injury time to close out this game.19:49

  7. 89'

It's not going to be their night - unless nothing short of a miracle happens - but the home fans are singing for the Roma players right to the final whistle, with flags waving and the stadium rocking. Win, loss, or draw, they're behind this team.20:12

  8. 87'

OVER!!! Some great fluid attacking from Inter as they pile forward. Dimarco leads the charge and tees up Perisic on the left, who cuts back to the unmarked Sensi. It's a near-enough open goal, but with a relatively easy chance, Sensi blasts his effort over the crossbar and out! That could've made it four!19:46

  9. 85'

Inter break through Perisic down the left, who has both crossing options, and space to cut inside and shoot. He looks to have chosen the latter, but is hesitant to shoot through the crowd and eventually loses possession after being crowded out!20:12

  10. 83'

Çalhanoğlu's been instrumental to this one-sided scoreline, and Stefano Sensi takes his place on the pitch for the last seven minutes.19:42

  11. 82'

CLOSE!!!! Finally some sort of reply from Roma!! Shumorodov finds Zaniolo, who bursts to the edge of the box before firing a past Handanovic with a great strike!!! It looks like it's gone straight into the top corner, but it actually hits the side netting and will result in a goal kick!!!19:41

  12. 80'

BLOCKED!!! Dumfries flies forward again, this time to tee up Alexis. He shoots low, but it's blocked by Smalling and cleared!19:39

  13. 78'

CHAOS!!! A throw-in back to Skriniar inside the Inter box sees him head poorly into the air. Zaniolo rises to compete with Handanovic for the ball, and he's then clattered by the Inter keeper after he punches clear! Roma's players are furious and we might not have seen the end of this one yet.19:37

  14. 76'

The excellent Bastoni is also substituted, and is replaced by Federico Dimarco.19:35

  15. 76'

Goalscorer Džeko comes off having put on a show against his former employers, and Matías Vecino takes his place on the pitch.19:35

  16. 75'

Zaniolo's frustration sees him yank down Brozovic by the arm, and make it 21 yellow cards in 67 Serie A games with a deserved booking.19:34

  17. 74'

Inter are really taking their time on the ball at the moment. They've two subs waiting to come on, Roma aren't doing anything resembling pressing to come back at them, and they're playing like a team who know they've got three points in the bag.19:33

  18. 72'

A long ball forward is met well by Shomurodov, who does brilliantly to cushion a downward header into the path of Mkhitaryan. He doesn't make much of this though, lashing a volley well high and wide of the goal, when he had time to set himself.19:31

  19. 70'

Bastoni's frequent ventures forward have not only seen him pick up an assist and a second assist, but he also leads the way for Inter in terms of crosses, passes in Roma's half, clearances, and duel win percentage. It's been quite the performance from the 22-year-old.19:30

  20. 68'

Mkhitaryan fouls Brozovic, and less than a minute later the Croatia midfielder returns the favour on Veretout. No cards are shown though, we've only seen three all game.20:11

  21. 66'

Sanchez dinks forward a delightful chipped throughball for Dzeko to latch onto. He does, and crosses for Vidal, but pressure from Mancini forces the substitute to scuff his shot and the chance peters out!19:25

  22. 65'

An Ibanez cross looks to be going behind for a corner as it deflects off Skriniar, but Shomurodov gives up on the chase and gives Bastoni time to recover and prevent the corner! Roma's fans will be fuming!19:22

  23. 63'

Forward comes Perisic again as he looks to link up with Alexis, but the substitute is clattered into touch by Mancini, and the Roma captain is given a yellow card.19:20

  24. 61'

Kumbulla's game is over, and on comes Edoardo Bove for Roma.19:18

  25. 59'

The yellow-carded Barella is also brought off, and Arturo Vidal enters the fray.19:17

  26. 59'

Correa does indeed come off, and in his place comes Alexis Sánchez.19:16

  27. 58'

Correa looks to get around Smalling but is unsuccessful and the Inter forward lands very awkwardly on his left knee. It's not looking good for the on-loan Lazio man, who may well be in need of replacing by Simone Inzaghi.19:16

  28. 56'

Roma's back-three have been kept constantly busy by the regular forages forward of Inter's attackers. Between them, Smalling, Kumbulla and Mancini have already cleared their lines eight times, equal to that of the entire Inter team.19:15

  29. 54'

A Roma corner comes off the shoulder of Ibanez and needs Handanovic to intervene to prevent another corner from taking place. It's not as if Roma haven't created chances, they've just lacked that cutting edge at the most crucial points in those attacks.19:13

  30. 52'

Dzeko advances forward and looks to beat Mkhitaryan, but the Roma midfielder strikes his face whilst winning the ball and the free-kick is given against him.19:10

  31. 51'

Dzeko attempts to find the continuing run of Dumfries with a smart backheel, but Smalling arrives to cut out the pass and eventually Roma clear.19:18

  32. 49'

José Mourinho has lost only one of his 45 home games as a manager in Serie A, winning 34 The first 38 of those came with Inter, and after this first meeting with them, in charge of another team, it's looking increasingly likely that his home losses in the league will have doubled by the end of this half.19:08

  33. 46'

Barella's foot is very, very high as he catches Kumbulla late, and the Inter midfielder receives a booking.01:10

  34. 46'

And we're back underway for the second half in this match!19:02

  35. The teams are back on the pitch, and Roma need to pull off one hell of a fightback if they're to have any chance of salvaging anything from this game!19:01

  36. There's not been much in the way of sentiment for Roma in Edin Dzeko's first game against his former club: he's already scored, and to add to that has had four shots with two on target, as well as a key passm, and has also won every single duel he's faced in this match.18:58

  37. Wow, what a first half performance from the visitors! After a sluggish start from both teams, that freak opening goal from Calhanoglu's corner set the wheels in motion for a first-class display by Inter. Dzeko's excellent finish against his former employers followed soon after, again through great work from Calhanoglu, before Dumfries arrived from nowhere at the back post to head in the third for Inter! Roma have hardly had a chance worth noting, and this game looks to be over already for them.18:50

  38. 45'+1'

    HALF-TIME: ROMA 0-3 INTER.18:47

  39. 45'

We'll play one more minute of added time, before Roma assumingly hear some stern, stern words from Jose Mourinho at half-time.18:47

  40. 44'

Another Inter corner, but this one is dealt with by a Mancini header away. It's crossed back in towards Dzeko but again deflected, before Calhanoglu lets fly and fizzes a shot well wide of the goal and nearly clear of the stadium itself!18:45

  41. 42'

Zanilo is crowded in the Inter box, but does brilliantly to get out of three challenges before Perisic arrives to nick the ball away as the Roma forward looks to pull the trigger. He's been a handful, even if he's hardly seen any of the ball in dangerous areas.18:44

  42. 41'

Roma have lost only one of their last 12 Serie A matches against Inter at the Olimpico stadium, 3-1 in August 2017, but that record looks like it's going to be broken in this match, and we're not even halfway through.18:43

  43. 39'

That cross from Bastoni was simply exquisite, and it's not the first venture forward he's been on. He's certainly not limited to a defensive job in his back-three role.18:42

  44. 39'

GOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! IT'S A DELIGHTFUL THIRD!!!! Bastoni is again very far forward from centre-back, and floats a delightful cross into the box. It bypasses everyone, but not before reaching a flying Dumfries at the back post, whose diving header flies straight past Patricio to make it 3-0 to Inter! Game, set, and match?

    See Denzel Dumfries's player card18:41

    Denzel Dumfries
  45. 37'

Correa looks to spark an attack but Ibanez is right behind him, and a tangling of legs sees the Roma wing-back punished and given the game's first yellow card.18:38

  46. 35'

With their two opening goals, Inter have equalled their longest streak of scoring in consecutive away matches in Serie A: 18 away league games in a row, first established between October 1950 and September 1951.18:38

  47. 33'

Zaniolo meets the corner and heads towards goal. It's on-target, but has very little power and Handanovic can gather without breaking a sweat.18:36

  48. 32'

There's a mix-up in the Inter box as a deflected Mkhitaryan cross bounces off first Skriniar, then D'Ambrosio, and finally Dzeko, before the striker hoofs it clear!18:34

  49. 31'

OVER!!! Perisic once more tears down the left side, and this time he does get his cross away - straight onto the head of Dzeko. He rises highest and the header looks good, but pressure and a slight deflection off Kumbulla sends it over the bar for another Inter corner!18:33

  50. 30'

SAVED!!!! There's no sentiment towards Roma from Dzeko, who links up with Correa in the box. The Bosnian is played in one-on-one and looks to shoot back across Patricio, but the Roma keeper saves well, and holds the ball at the second time of asking!18:31

  51. 28'

Perisic is in space down the left, and it's Mhkitaryan who has to get back and cover for Roma, preventing a cross but conceding a corner in the process.18:29

  52. 26'

Inter wing-back Dumfries ventures up the pitch, but he's tracked all the way and eventually fouled by Shomurodov, who concedes the free-kick.18:48

  53. 24'

The assist from Calhanoglu was perfectly weighted for Dzeko to hit, and the Bosnian scores his first goal against former club Roma!18:28

  54. 24'

GOOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! IT'S TWO!!!!! Simply brilliant play from Inter as Bastoni tees up Calhanoglu on the byline. The first goalscorer turns provider, squaring the ball for Dzeko to lash it home on the half-volley! 2-0, and just like that, Inter are in complete control.

    See Edin Dzeko's player card18:27

    Edin Dzeko
  55. 22'

It's better from Inter, who are really starting to grow into this game now. Roma have hardly offered anything of note, whereas the away side look likely to score whenever they venture forward.18:25

  56. 21'

Inter are on the hunt for a second, and Correa tees up Dzeko on the edge of the box. His half-volley isn't struck at all well though, and it flies high and wide of the Roma goal.18:24

  57. 19'

Shomurodov breaks forward for Roma and links up with Zaniolo to his left. He looks to cross for the unmarked Veretout, but it's headed away for danger by Skriniar.18:22

  58. 17'

He's known as a set-piece specialist, but even Calhanoglu probably wasn't expecting that to come off! Neither side has really shown much so far, but that goal means Roma have it all to do!18:22

  59. 15'

GOOOOOALLLLL!!!! WHAT A FREAK GOAL TO INTER!!!! After Veretout concedes a corner, Calhanoglu whips it in, catching everyone napping as it flies all the way in at the front post! Patricio is furious with his defenders, but he's just as much to blame as the Nerazzuri take a1-0 lead!

    See Hakan Calhanoglu's player card18:36

    Hakan Calhanoglu
  60. 13'

This game is still taking it's time to get doing, and although there is much more bite in the challenges now than in the first five minutes, that only leads to a slower game as referee Marco Di Bello isn't playing the leniency game whatsoever.18:18

  61. 11'

Matches between Roma and Inter have produced the most goals in Serie A history – 511, which is at least 38 more than any other – and the Nerazzurri have won their joint-most matches against the Giallorossi in the top-flight (73, level with v Bologna).18:11

  62. 9'

Correa drops deep to link play as Dzeko advances into the box. It comes to Brozovic, who chooses to shoot rather than find the run of Dzeko, and it's blocked by Mancini away from the danger area!18:10

  63. 7'

An overlapping D'Ambrosio cross flies over everyone's heads but Ibanez slips as he attempts to control the ball and concedes the first corner of the game!18:08

  64. 5'

Neither side seems willing to commit too many men forward to build an attack so far, but there's no doubt that both teams setting up with back-threes and packed, five-man midfields respectively is helping to cancel out any real forward momentum.18:07

  65. 3'

Roma’s last win against Inter in the league came in February 2017, and Inter’s eight-match unbeaten streak against the Giallorossi, although including six draws, is the longest run of games without a win against a side in Roma’s history. 18:03

  66. 1'

An early opportunity for the hosts as Zaniolo marches forward, breaking out of two tackles to cross into the box. It lands on the head of Shomurodov, but he can't direct his header and it's easily dealt with by Inter.18:02

  67. 1'

Roma get us underway as the game begins!18:01

  68. The teams enter the fray, as the Stadio Olimpico gets ready for a clash of two Italian footballing giants!17:58

  69. With leading domestic scorer Lautaro Martinez on the bench, it’s a first start against his former club for Inter striker Edin Dzeko. Having left Roma on a free transfer in the summer, he is Inter’s leading scorer in all competitions with ten, although hasn’t found the next in any of his last six league appareances.17:58

  70. In the continued absence of summer signing Tammy Abraham, Nicolo Zaniolo starts up front for Roma. The 22-year-old, who came through Inter’s youth ranks, has picked up 20 yellow card in just 66 first-team matches in the league for the home side, and can’t be discounted from extending that record against his former club in this game.17:57

  71. INTER SUBS: Alex Cordaz, Ionut Radu, Roberto Gagliardini, Alexis Sanchez, Matias Vecino, Lautaro Martinez, Stefano Sensi, Arturo Vidal, Federico Dimarco, Fabio Cortonovis, Mattia Zanotti, Franco Ezequiel Carboni.17:44

  72. INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Danilo D’Ambrosino, Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni; Denzel Dumfries, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ivan Perisic; Edin Dzeko, Joaquin Correa.17:43

  73. ROMA SUBS: Pietro Boer, Daniel Fuzato, Gonzalo Villar, Riccardo Calafiori, Bryan Reynolds, Borja Mayoral, Amadou Diawara, Edoardo Bove, Ebrima Darboe, Nicola Zalewski, Maissa Ndiaye, Cristian Volpato.17:43

  74. ROMA (3-1-4-2): Rui Patricio; Gianluca Maldini, Chris Smalling, Marash Kumbulla; Bryan Cristante; Roger Ibanez, Jordan Veretout, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Matias Vina; Nicolo Zaniolo, Eldor Shomurodov.17:44

  75. Inter though, are two rungs higher on the ladder in third, and although they’re four points behind league leaders AC Milan, this match is a game in hand they have on their city rivals.17:35

  76. Jose Mourinho’s Roma currently lie fifth in Serie A, but are six points behind fourth-placed Atalanta. Although there’s still plenty of football to be played this season, the Giallorossi need to start making up ground on the top four if they’re to stay in the fight for Champions League qualification.17:35
