Following a concerning spell of form just before the international break, Juventus will be pleased to have edged a drab, procedural affair in the capital, thanks to two expertly taken penalties from their captain. On both occasions he was asked to step up to the mark, Bonucci slotted home the decisive spot-kicks, which were fair reward for a resilient showing by the Bianconeri. Lazio, meanwhile, looked bereft of ideas without main man Immobile, and were unable to live up to their reputation as one of Serie A's top scorers.
As a result of today's win, Juve join their hosts on 21 points from 13 league games, but still have a mountain to climb to get back in the Scudetto race. They meet Chelsea and Atalanta in the coming week, so there will be no easy points on offer there. Lazio next travel to Moscow, before returning to Italy for a clash with league leaders Napoli.
That's all from Stadio Olimpico today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!

90'+5'
FULL-TIME: LAZIO 0-2 JUVENTUS19:59
90'+4'
A woeful set-piece by Lazio is easily headed away from the Juve area, summing up their lightweight attacking efforts today.19:58
90'+3'
Rabiot crashes into Milinkovic-Savic, who has been quiet today, offering Luis Alberto a chance to sling in a free-kick from wide on the left for Lazio.19:57
90'+1'
With things getting heated on the touchline, both managers are booked by the exasperated referee!19:56
89'
Allegri withdraws Locatelli from midfield, allowing Bentancur to have a short run-out at the Olimpico.19:55
88'
REINA TO THE RESCUE! With most of the opposition half free to run into, Kean jinks this way and that before getting off a firm, low shot from 20 yards. It doesn't find the corner though, so Reina gets down to stop the scoreline growing more humbling for a beaten Lazio side.19:54
86'
Kean has a shot from the right side of the box saved in the centre of the goal by the chastened Reina, following a pass from Chiesa.19:51
84'
With time running out, Cataldi is brought off by Lazio, with Basic thrown on more in hope than expectation.19:49
83'
BONUCCI AT THE DOUBLE! Stand-in captain Bonucci fires home his second penalty-kick of the match, sending Reina the wrong way from the 12-yard spot. Surely that's game, set and match now for the wily Old Lady.
Complaining about a foul on Muriqi in the build-up only gets Luis Alberto a yellow card from the referee.20:24
81'
For trying to recover his position with an ill-judged challenge on Chiesa, Reina not only concedes a penalty but also goes into the referee's notebook.19:46
80'
ANOTHER PENALTY FOR JUVE! Embarking on a familiar slalom run through the Lazio defence, Chiesa is clear through on goal, and the out-of-position Reina crunches into him with a sliding tackle which sees the referee point immediately to the spot!19:45
78'
Drawing whistles from the home fans, who are hardly enamoured with their back-up striker, Muriqi can't get sufficiently airbound to head a cross into the net, and Szczesny calmly plucks the ball out of the air.19:44
76'
From Rabiot's cross, Juventus earn a corner following Kean's blocked shot. The Italy striker then plants a header from the centre of the box off target.19:41
74'
A combative but ultimately fruitless showing from Anderson comes to an end, and young Moro is on for the Aquile.19:39
73'
After making little impact, Morata is withdrawn for Kean to return from injury for Juventus.19:38
71'
A coming together between Pellegrini and Lazzari sees a brief flaring of tempers from both teams, but the drama dies down when the latter wins a free-kick for his side.19:37
69'
This game turns more turgid by the moment, as both sides are stuck on repeat. Lazio are getting nowhere fast in pursuit of an equaliser.19:35
67'
As a cross towards the target of Morata comes into Lazio's area, Reina reacts to palm the danger away. Lazio cannot afford to fall asleep at the back despite their dominance of the ball.19:33
65'
Sarri opts for a change of tack, as playmaker Zaccagni - just back from an injury layoff - is replaced by conventional targetman Muriqi.19:30
62'
Lazio have had 60 per cent of possession so far, and a total of eight shots on goal, but only one attempt has hit the target and Juventus look comfortable in their defensive shape.19:29
60'
Without seriously threatening the Juventus goal, Luis Alberto has a right-footed shot from outside the box blocked, following a pass by Luiz Felipe.19:26
58'
More concern is raised in the Juventus defence, as Bonucci halts the game complaining of an apparent eye problem. After a short while, though, the Bianconeri captain is fit to continue.19:25
56'
A winking Sarri watches on as Zaccagni avoids censure for flailing an arm at Cuadrado, and a free-kick is awarded to Lazio.19:23
54'
The opening throes of this second half are following a similar pattern to the first, as the home side probe patiently while the visitors sit back and hope to use their pace to break.19:21
52'
Juventus have scored one goal in each of their last six league games before today's trip to Rome. The last time the Turin club recorded a longer such streak was in the autumn of 2008.19:19
50'
Lazio are starting to build some pressure by moving the ball more quickly on the edge of the Juventus defensive third, but the visitors hold firm; Bonucci charging down a speculative Pedro strike from outside the area.19:16
48'
After the ball breaks to him inside the Lazio area, following a corner, Bonucci prods a shot wide of the post from no more than 10 yards out.19:14
47'
SHARP SAVE! Reina gets down to block out a low driven attempt by Kulusevski from the right side of the area with his leg. It was a surging run by the Swedish winger and showed some rare intent from the Juventus attack.19:12
46'
We are back under way at the Olimpico!19:09
Today's hosts will be doubly determined to fight back after the interval, as if they can somehow turn things around against a deep-lying opponent, a club record 17th league win at home during 2021 would beat a previous best set over 70 years ago.19:03
While Lazio lead Juventus in the Serie A standings - though would be caught on points should they fail to find an equaliser after the break - there has been little to split these giants of Calcio in an uninspiring first half. For neutrals, an early lead for the Old Lady was the last thing required, as they have often clung on to such leads with a tight defensive shape during the past two months. Meanwhile, Lazio's 'false nine' experiment has failed and they must markedly improve.18:58
45'+4'
HALF-TIME: LAZIO 0-1 JUVENTUS18:53
45'+2'
Szczesny easily deals with a deflected cross by Cataldi, as Lazio's attacks become increasingly desperate ahead of the half-time whistle.18:52
45'
Pedro almost jinks clear on the edge of the box, but one of eight black shirts worn by defending Juventus players descends to slam the door shut in his face.18:50
43'
From the free-kick, Rabiot has a shot from the right closed down and Lazio eventually get the ball away to safety.18:48
42'
Despite his appeals, Hysaj goes into the referee's notebook for a clear pull on Kulusevski, as the latter looked to latch onto a long ball through the middle and burst into space.18:47
40'
CLOSE! Morata guides the ball just over the crossbar with an acrobatic volleyed attempt from the left side of the box, following a lofted pass by Cuadrado from the opposite flank.18:46
39'
Anderson again collides with his marker Pellegrini on the right, giving away a frustrating free-kick, as the Lazio attack stalls once more.18:44
37'
Clearly being missed by the home side today, Immobile is one of only four players already with at least 10 goals in the top five European leagues this season, along with Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema and Mohamed Salah.18:42
35'
Finally, Lazio force a shot on goal, as Milinkovic-Savic has a long-range attempt repelled by Szczesny. However, the Juve keeper did not look troubled by that rather hopeful attempt.18:41
34'
From the free-kick, Milinkovic-Savic's curled effort is deflected well over the bar by a steadfast Juventus wall. In the aftermath, Lazio earn a second successive corner.18:39
32'
Rabiot brings down Anderson - much to the annoyance of Immobile, who watches on from the stands - and Lazio have a free-kick 25 yards out on the left side of the area.18:38
31'
Still attempting to probe on the edge of the visitors' defensive third, Lazio are yet to record a shot on target and look a little impotent without the threat of injured top scorer Ciro Immobile.18:36
29'
Juve are attempting to take the sting out of any Lazio momentum, by slowly building from the back and taking a sideways route when pressed by the Biancocelesti pack.18:34
28'
Having let the play roll on, the referee calls Cuadrado back to show the Colombian winger a yellow card for pulling back Hysaj.18:35
25'
Kulusevski concedes a free-kick for an obvious shove on Cataldi deep inside the Lazio half, taking the pressure off the home side, who will want to bounce back to equalise before half-time.18:31
23'
JUVENTUS LEAD! Staying cool amid the howls and whistles of the Lazio fans, Bonucci slots his penalty kick into the top-right corner, giving Reina no chance to stop Juve taking the lead. 1-0 to the Bianconeri!
PENALTY AWARDED! Juventus have a chance to take the lead from the spot, after Morata was fouled in the box.18:26
20'
PENALTY TO JUVE? The referee has been persuaded to review a sliding challenge by Cataldi on Morata inside the Lazio area, and a penalty could be on the cards! The Olimpico waits with baited breath.18:25
18'
Ahead of today's fixtures, Lazio had accumulated the joint-most points on home turf this term, throughout Serie A. Their most recent success at Stadio Olimpico - a fifth win from six attempts - came at the expense of Salernitana just before the international break, when Maurizio Sarri's side brushed aside the southern strugglers 3-0.18:24
16'
In a promising position on the edge of the Juventus area, Anderson miscontrols the ball and is forced to clip Pellegrini in pursuit the ball, conceding a free-kick.18:21
15'
Surprisingly, Max Allegri opts to replace the stricken Danilo with Kulusevski, a far more attacking player. It will be interesting to see if and how this modifies Juve's shape.18:19
13'
The action is paused as Danilo is carefully lifted onto a stretcher and removed from the pitch. Juve will have to make an early defensive change. 18:18
11'
Having taken a blow to the leg, Danilo hits the turf and requires medical treatment from the Juventus physios. He looks in some trouble here and may have to come off.18:16
10'
Lazzari gets into a good position high up on the right flank, but no Biancocelesti shirts can arrive quickly enough to meet his scudding ball across the box.18:15
8'
Morata contributes defensively by rising to power away a crossed free-kick with a header at the near post. After a cagey start, the game is starting to stir into life.18:13
6'
Featuring in a makeshift front three for the hosts, Anderson has an attempt charged down by De Ligt inside the area.18:11
4'
Lazio have won only two of their last 33 Serie A games against Juventus - losing 24 times in the process - and have also conceded at least once in their last 16 home games versus the Old Lady. That represents the Biancocelesti's longest streak without a clean sheet against any opponent in the Italian top flight.18:09
2'
Some neat Juventus interplay around the edge of the Lazio box is ended when Locatelli is crowded out by the home defence, and the ball is cleared.18:07
1'
We are under way in Rome!20:23
Amid the cavernous stands of the Olimpico, the players are out on the turf and ready for kick-off.20:23
Paulo Dybala was ruled out of action for Juventus ahead of the trip to Rome, and the Argentina striker is joined by midfield pair Aaron Ramsey and Rodrigo Bentancur, plus veteran skipper Giorgio Chiellini, on the sidelines. Allegri will also have to do without Federico Bernardeschi, who was injured representing Italy, but Moise Kean is available on the bench and Federico Chiesa joins Alvaro Morata up front. Lazio, meanwhile, will sorely miss star striker Ciro Immobile, and Pedro has been chosen as a 'false nine' after overcoming an ankle sprain suffered in training. Mattia Zaccagni recently recovered from a knee injury, so joins the former Spain international in a new-look attacking trident for the home side.20:21
SUBS: Mattia Perin, Dejan Kulusevski, Alex Sandro, Kaio Jorge, Daniele Rugani, Moise Kean, Carlo Pinsoglio, Rodrigo Bentancur, Arthur.20:16
JUVENTUS (3-5-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Danilo, Leonardo Bonucci, Matthijs de Ligt; Juan Cuadrado, Weston McKennie, Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot, Luca Pellegrini; Alvaro Morata, Federico Chiesa.20:15
SUBS: Thomas Strakosha, Lucas Leiva, Gonzalo Escalante, Denis Vavro, Raul Moro, Vedat Muriqi, Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro, Marius Adamonis, Toma Basic, Stefan Radu, Luka Romero, Patric. 20:14
LAZIO (4-3-3): Pepe Reina; Manuel Lazzari, Luiz Felipe, Francesco Acerbi, Elseid Hysaj; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Danilo Cataldi, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Pedro, Mattia Zaccagni.20:14
Max Allegri's side sit a remarkable 14 points off the top of the table, despite a last-gasp victory just before top-flight football was paused for World Cup qualifying. Ex-Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado found the net with a 91st-minute strike against his former club a fortnight ago, helping Juventus into eighth place, but they remain well off the Scudetto pace.20:13
Maurizio Sarri's home team welcome Juve to the capital with both sides sitting outside the league's top four. While the fifth-placed Aquile have been undermined by inconsistency, their visitors trail them by three points and three places in the standings following an error-filled start to the Serie A campaign.20:11
