Two quickfire goals from Ronaldo at the end of the first half seal a routine win for Juventus, who never looked like losing this game. Bernardeschi had a goal ruled out before the Portuguese bent in an excellent finish from the edge of the area, and he latched on to Demiral's flick-on from a corner to double the lead a couple of minutes later. Demiral hit the crossbar from a Juve corner in the second half and Klavan went off with a nasty-looking head wound at the other end, but there wasn't a lot of drama throughout the 90 minutes. The gulf in class was obvious.

The win takes Juventus up to second in Serie A, a point behind leaders AC Milan - though Pirlo's side have played one more game than the teams around them. Cagliari stay 11th, but could drop to 13th on Sunday if results go against them.

That's it from me here tonight. Until the next time, ciao!

  1. 90'+4'

    FULL-TIME: JUVENTUS 2-0 CAGLIARI22:39

  2. 90'+3'

McKennie fouls Sottil by the touchline. The American has committed more fouls than any other player on the pitch tonight, and he only came on 20 minutes ago.22:39

  3. 90'+1'

    Four minutes of stoppage time.22:36

  4. 90'

A loose ball drops to Dybala at the right side of the area and he goes for goal, but his shot is immediately blocked in a crowded penalty area.22:36

  5. 88'

Into the last couple of minutes now. Cagliari don't look like mounting a comeback.22:33

  6. 86'

Danilo is gone too, replaced by his fellow Brazilian, Sandro.22:31

  7. 85'

Kulusevski has had a good game, but he's off for Chiesa.05:55

  8. 85'

More changes late on. Bentancur gets a run-out, Arthur gets a rest.22:30

  9. 83'

Cagliari enjoy some possession in the attacking third but Juve seem happy enough to hold them at arm's length. They haven't been able to pick their way through in the last 82 minutes and they don't manage it this time either.22:30

  10. 81'

    And now Oliva replaces Ounas.22:26

  11. 80'

More Cagliari changes. Simeone is off after a quiet night, with Pavoletti his replacement.05:55

  12. 80'

Bernardeschi looks to have gotten around Zappa but the right-back does well to get back in front of the winger and turn away, though he inadvertently puts the ball behind for a corner as he does so.22:26

  13. 78'

Cuadrado dribbles into the area from the right before touching the ball on to McKennie with the outside of his boot. He decides the angle is too tight to shoot so he cuts back inside and chips a cross towards Bernardeschi at the far post, but it's cut out.22:24

  14. 76'

Dybala dribbles at the visiting defence for the first time, driving into the area and clipping in a cross from the left. It's turned goalwards in a crowd and Cragno makes a decent reaction save, and Kulusevski's side-footed follow-up is blocked.22:22

  15. 75'

McKennie shoves Rog to the turf as he looks to burst away from him in midfield. The Cagliari man looks weary more than anything else.22:21

  16. 74'

Sottil is booked for a late tackle.22:20

  17. 73'

Changes from both sides, then. Hopefully that injects a bit of energy back into a game which was in danger of fizzling out. Dybala will be keen to make the most of his time on the pitch after a frustrating start to the season so far.22:18

  18. 71'

It's a double change for Cagliari too, with Caligara on for Marin.22:16

  19. 70'

Klavan is taken off, though he's up and walking. He has a massive bandage on his forehead and blood down his face, but he seems lucid, which is always a relief with head injuries. Carboni comes on to replace him.22:16

  20. 69'

Dybala comes on in place of Morata.22:15

  21. 69'

Klavan is up but heavily bandaged. In the meantime, Juve make some changes. McKennie replaces Rabiot.22:15

  22. 68'

This looks nasty for Klavan. Ounas and Marin take the corner short, the latter eventually chipping the ball into the area. Ronaldo looks to hook it clear but ends up backheeling the ball into the danger zone. Klavan flies through the air and collides head-first with De Ligt, and the former Liverpool man goes straight down. The ball drops in but a goal doesn't appear to have been given, presumably for a foul on De Ligt. Klavan is receiving treatment to a bloody head in the area.22:17

  23. 67'

Ounas and Pedro combine down the right and De Ligt gets across to block the latter's cross behind for a corner.22:12

  24. 65'

Rabiot sets Bernardeschi in behind down the left. He gets to the edge of the area and pulls it back to Morata who shoots first time, looking to bend an effort into the top-right corner but sending it just over the crossbar.22:10

  25. 64'

The game has slipped into a bit of a lull in the last few minutes. Cagliari are going to need to make some changes to have a hope of getting back into this.22:10

  26. 62'

Cagliari work the ball into the final third but, once again lacking the guile to pick their way through, Rog has a pop from range. It flies over. 22:08

  27. 60'

Ounas looks to inject some energy into a Cagliari attack, driving infield from the right before hitting a crossfield pass to the feet of Sottil on the other side. The move doesn't develop any further, the visitors unable to find a way through the Juve defence.22:06

  28. 58'

Kulusevski finds Cuadrado in space on the right but his low cross is easy for Walukiewicz to clear at the edge of the six-yard box.22:03

  29. 57'

Marin tries his luck from range but slips onto his backside as he shoots and spoons his effort way over the crossbar.22:02

  30. 56'

Juve are getting more space in behind since half-time. Kulusevski drives down the right and squares for Ronaldo who, surprisingly while on a hat-trick, dummies it on to Bernardeschi. His first-time shot is just turned round the post, and the resulting corner is cleared.22:01

  31. 54'

Arthur is booked for a foul in midfield.21:59

  32. 53'

Danilo is booked for a cynical foul, chopping down a Cagliari player looking to lead a counter-attack from the corner.21:59

  33. 53'

Off the bar! Demiral meets Cuadrado's corner with a booming header but he puts it onto the woodwork.21:58

  34. 53'

Cuadrado dances into the area from the right, getting away from Marin and Pisacane but firin his shot straight into a crowd of bodies from a tight angle.21:58

  35. 52'

Zappa lifts a free-kick from the left towards Pedro at the far post. He nods it back into the middle where Bernardeschi heads clear.21:57

  36. 50'

Arthur almost sells Buffon short with a pass in the penalty area, but the veteran goalkeeper reacts to it before Simeone has time to react, with the forward already moving in the opposite direction.21:55

  37. 49'

Rog turns really well away from two Juventus midfielders then puts in a good sliding tackle to win the ball back from a third after losing possession with a heavy touch, but he can't do it all himself and eventually Juve get it back.21:54

  38. 47'

Kulusevski puts Ronaldo through on goal but he can't quite get away from the last line of defence. He checks back and looks for Morata to his right, but his pass is underhit and cut out.21:52

  39. 45'

We're back underway for the second half.21:50

  40. 45'

Cagliari make a change at the break. Sottil replaces Tripaldelli.21:50

  41. Cagliari were on good form coming into this game, but it's a long way back for them now. Their dangermen, Pedro and Simeone, have hardly been in the game.21:34

  42. Juventus go in with a two-goal lead, and they're good value for it. Cagliari started brightly but the hosts got on top pretty early on and haven't looked back. Bernardeschi had a goal ruled out for a tight offside call on Morata in the build-up, but Morata got his assist with seven minutes of the half remaining, holding the ball up for Ronaldo to fire in from the edge of the area. Only a couple of minutes later, he had his second, turning the ball in at the far post after Demiral nodded Cuadrado's corner on to him.21:33

  43. 45'+1'

    HALF-TIME: JUVENTUS 2-0 CAGLIARI21:31

  44. 45'+1'

Ronaldo also moves to eight goals in his first five Serie A appearances this season, drawing level with Dybala's record tally from three years ago. Will he pass it with a hat-trick?21:31

  45. 44'

Ronaldo hadn't seen a lot of the ball before his opening goal, but he doesn't need to. Two moments of sheer quality from their star man and Juventus will be very confident of winning this game.21:30

  46. 42'

Demiral gets the assist for flicking on the corner to Ronaldo.21:29

  47. 42'

GOAL! 2-0 Juve, Ronaldo with his second! It's a poacher's goal, this one. Cuadrado's corner from the right is flicked on by Demiral towards an unmarked Ronaldo at the far post. It looks to be behind him but he slows his momentum well, hanging his foot back and hooking the ball into the empty net.

    Cristiano Ronaldo
  48. 42'

Ronaldo gets the ball to the right of midfield and drives into space outside the area. It looks as though he's winding up a shot but opts against it, eventually turning back and recycling possession. It comes back to Ronaldo and he tees up Kulusevski at the edge of the box, and his shot deflects behind for a corner.21:27

  49. 40'

Ronaldo now has seven goals in five games this season. In the three points for a win era, Paulo Dybala is the only Juventus player to score more in their first five appearances in a Serie A campaign. He hit eight in his first five outings in 2017-18, so Ronaldo can still catch him tonight.21:26

  50. 38'

Morata with the assist. He and Ronaldo are linking up nicely this season.21:24

  51. 38'

GOAL! 1-0 Juventus, Ronaldo with a cracking finish! There's nothing too complicated about the goal. Bernardeschi finds Morata at the edge of the D, and he turns the ball round to Ronaldo on the left. He takes a touch to set himself on his right foot and bends a powerful shot inside the far post.

  52. 37'

Cuadrado's free-kick from the right is headed away by Simeone on the line of the six-yard box. It drops to Bernardeschi and he shoots first time, drilling a low effort straight at Cragno. He hit it powerfully through a crowd, but it was a simple enough save.21:23

  53. 35'

Tripaldelli is booked for an off-the-ball foul on Cuadrado as he looked to latch onto a one-two with Kulusevski on the Juve right.21:21

  54. 33'

Rabiot is booked for a foul in the build-up.21:20

  55. 33'

Marin and Rog pass the ball between themselves at the right corner of the Juve area, seemingly unsure what to do with it. Eventually it's played to Ounas on the right, but he has to stretch for it and his cross flies straight behind for a goal kick.21:19

  56. 32'

Danilo looks to lead a charge forward from defence and gets halfway into the Cagliari half with the ball, but he's tackled in midfield and it spins away for a goal kick.21:17

  57. 30'

After half an hour, Juventus have had 71 per cent of possession. Going into this game, Cagliari had conceded the most shots on target of any side in the top five European leagues, while Cragno is the only goalkeeper to have made more than 100 saves. They have real problems stopping their opponents from turning possession into goalscoring chances.21:16

  58. 29'

Juventus are well on top now, and this is the closest they've come so far. Danilo picks out Cuadrado on the right. He pulls the ball back for Kulusevski in the area and he goes for goal, bending a shot just wide of the far bottom corner. 21:15

  59. 27'

Rog fires a pass in to Pedro in the area, but he can't control it properly and a possible chance for the visitors goes begging.21:13

  60. 25'

Oooh! That was nearly a tap-in for Ronaldo. Juve move the ball from left to right and Morata flicks it on to where Ronaldo looks to be wide open in the area, but Walukiewicz does really well to stretch his leg and poke it out of reach for a corner. Morata meets the corner with a strong header at the near post but he powers his effort over.21:12

  61. 25'

Bernardeschi shows a good change of pace to burst clear of Zappa down the left, but his cross flies straight into the gloves of Cragno.21:10

  62. 23'

Kulusevski is proving a real problem on the right. He comes infield again and finds first Ronaldo, then Rabiot, but neither can find room for a shot. Eventually Ronaldo gets the ball back and goes for goal, but his effort towards the top-right corner deflects wide for a corner, which is cleared.21:08

  63. 21'

A rare lapse in concentration from Ronaldo there. He gets possession in midfield and looks to turn away into space, but leaves the ball behind and Rog comes over to nick it away.21:07

  64. 19'

Kulusevski causes some indecision in the area as he cuts inside from the right and bends a left-footed cross in from deep. It's half-cleared only as far as Bernardeschi, but his first-time shot from inside the area flies way over the crossbar.21:04

  65. 18'

Morata and Ronaldo combine with a one-two to try and set the latter free into the area, but Rog makes a good, strong challenge on the Portuguese right on the edge of the box. 21:03

  66. 16'

A good counter-attack from Cagliari breaks down after a heavy touch from Simeone at the edge of the area, and he fouls De Ligt as he looks to win the ball back.21:01

  67. 15'

Bernardeschi crosses towards Morata from the left, but it's too close to the goalkeeper and Cragno punches clear. 21:00

  68. 13'

Juve are growing into the game now after a slightly sluggish start. Cagliari are still buzzing around with lots of energy, but the home side are looking more assured in possession.20:59

  69. 11'

GOOOA-no! Juventus have the ball in the net but it won't stand. Rabiot was heavily involved in the build-up, bringing the ball from right to left and playing it to the feet of Morata. He held it up before flicking it round the corner to the unmarked Bernardeschi who lashed home, but the linesman's flag was straight up for offside against Morata.21:19

  70. 10'

Pisacane does well by his own corner flag, holding onto the ball and winning a throw-in when under pressure from Rabiot and Bernardeschi.20:55

  71. 8'

Juventus have their first real spell of possession, playing the ball patiently around the Cagliari half before finding Morata in the area. A heavy touch looks to have snuffed out the chance but he battles to win it back before forcing in a cross which is easily cleared.20:54

  72. 6'

Cagliari look confident. They have won three of their last four games in Serie A - only Roma have won more points in the same time period.20:52

  73. 5'

Marin knocks Morata over in midfield as he was looking up to try and find Ronaldo, who was making a run ahead of him. Cagliari have started very energetically.20:51

  74. 4'

Tripaldelli gets to the left byline and pulls a low cross back into the area, but it's cleared away by De Ligt.20:50

  75. 3'

Pedro wins the ball from Cuadrado in midfield and leads a counter-attack down the left. He makes good progress and lifts a decent cross in to Simeone in the area, but he's eventually crowded out.20:49

  76. 2'

Morata gets a first opportunity to carry the ball down the right but Klavan does well to shepherd him towards the corner flag and win a throw-in.20:47

  77. We're off!20:45

  78. The teams are on their way out onto the pitch. The players are wearing red marks on their faces as part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of violence against women. Kick-off is moments away.20:42

  79. Cagliari won the last fixture between these teams, 2-0 at home at the end of July. Before then, Juve had been unbeaten in 18 matches against today’s opponents, winning 15 of those encounters.20:37

  80. It’s welcome back to Dutch international De Ligt, who makes his first appearance since having shoulder surgery in August. With Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini both out, Demiral starts alongside him in the centre of defence. Diego Godin tested positive for Covid-19 during the international break so he’s out for Cagliari, with Nahitan Nandez self-isolating as a precaution.20:33
